Welcome to the James Wilbur Wood Museum. Here you will find a constantly replenished tribute to a Master Lucite Carver of the 40's through the 70's. James carved for a living, and because he often left the finishing of his pieces to retailers, he often did not get high prices for his work even though it was sold in shops all across the country. Thousands of James Wood Lucite pieces exist, ranging in variety from roses to fish to Hawaii souvenirs. Many pieces can be identified by family members. To learn more about James Wilbur Wood click on the History link at the top of the page where you will find an updated version of an article written by Cheryl that appeared in the Winter of 1999 issue of "Vintage Fashion and Costume Jewelry." (To receive a copy of that issue or to subscribe contact VFCJ@aol.com) Come back to this page often as we will be continually adding new photos of James Wood's vintage Lucite artwork.

Here is an orange rose to get the museum started. This piece was done later in James' career; this can be determined by the simplicity of the leaves. As his carvings became more popular the demand for larger orders forced him to carve less intricate designs.

An early souvenir paperweight probably late 40's early 50's.

Done for the Ballard Blossom Shop in Seattle WA

this was a sample but they chose key chains for order.

Close up of the intricate roses on the paperweight.

This is an early red rose brooch pin......more the style of the paperweight to the left. In the 60's and 70's lines on many items became smoother as he received huge orders from wholesalers.

This is one of the key chains made for the Ballard Blossom Shop as advertising see the back of it in next photo.

He used a print press with gold foil to put the advertising. He made alot of key chains for different businesses using also flamingos etc

This is an early orchid compact he made for my mother.

He made alot of souvenir items Most all of the pieces on this site are samples of the items that he sold so there should be many more out there of some of these.

This is the piece that is displayed in the

Vintage Fashion & Costume Jewelry Newsletter
winter 99 issue I will also be listing an orchid and possibly other pieces that are in there but I have my copy stored away so deep I am not sure where it is so I am not sure which ones.

This is probably a 60's or 70's Orchid Brooch

This is a cover piece for a square ladies compact.

What a beautiful bass my father carved! this is a bolo slide.

One of his charming gold fish nail files

A Souvenir pendant. He probably got this order when we were traveling. We got to see all these places!

One of dads charming swan pendants

The back of the swan pendant. This particular piece is a sample of one his advertising pieces he got orders for.

This is a pen holder he made and carved. He sold lots of these. I doubt if they leave collections very easily.

Here is a close up of the rose in the pen holder. he made big clocks that were sold too and large paperweights like this also.

This is a Talisman Rose Necklace and Belt Buckle he made for my mom.

this shape is called a York. My sister and brother cut out hundreds and hundreds of these perhaps more with the Cutter machine. and I am sure I wet sanded all of these I probably wet sanded most all the pieces of my dad you will find. This seem to be hard to find. like the hearts.

One my dads smoother orchids.

One of dads fancier orchids This particular piece the pin back broke off so I had it sewn on a black choker ....which is off now but ...what a beauty.
